ELECTRICITY STORAGE WEBINAR

Tuesday, June 5, 2012 12:00pm - 1:00pm EDT
Host: InterSolar

The Intersolar Webinar is intended to provide an overview of existing power storage technology solutions and applications in USA and Europe.

Our energy infrastructure has so far relied on the ability to react to, demand and supply volatility, quite flexibly. However, steering energy generation becomes much more difficult as the share of Renewable Energy (RE) rises. Under the assumption of a continuous expansion of Renewable Energy production capacities worldwide, green electricity will flood the grid more and more.

As a showcase, Germany has managed to provide one fifth of the national power consumption by means of renewable energy sources in 2011. If the trend of the last three years continues, 30 percent will be possible in 2016. Several federal states in the USA have also set ambitious targets; California, for example, is aiming for 33% of renewable energy by 2020.

One regulating measure would be the adjustment of energy demand, the other one is the storage of generated energy over time. In the long-run, a combination of both will likely be needed to achieve the optimum supply-demand match. For this reason, different storage solutions need to be combined in order to deal with the natural volatility in supply and demand.
