Innovative finance mechanisms are driving solar installation, from distributed residential to utility scale projects. Leading solar installers and developers are starting to look at fully integrating storage into their standard offerings. The questions now become how to incorporate the value propositions of storage into the solar finance models and how to market that value to end users and consumers.
The answers may lie in the emerging value streams for storage, including backup, firming/dispatchability, demand response, and frequency regulation. Lithium Ion batteries, although much more expensive than Lead Acid, can now discharge power rapidly enough to meet grid operator frequency regulation requests. FERC has been issuing decisions and calls for input around opening the markets for demand response and ancillary services. The ability to receive payment for these high value services changes the economic equation for solar + storage.
This webinar brings together leaders in the utility, commercial- and residential-scale solar, energy storage, and finance communities to discuss the concepts, directions, and benefits of coupling renewable energy generation with energy storage for utilities, communities, building owners/managers, and homeowners.
